After the Flood - Day 2 !!!!!
As we set to begin Day 2 in our recovery efforts at ARF we were greeted by the warm glow of a beautiful sunrise. Today's forecast calls for sunshine and dry conditions today which is certainly great news for all of us at ARF.
The beauty of the morning sunrise was a perfect symbolic tribute to the outpouring of support ARF has received through this crisis! We are thrilled to report that all of our animals have foster homes until they are adopted or conditions at ARF become safe for their return... whichever comes first. Words can't express how thankful we are for the generosity of those that have donated dog food, cat food, cleaning supplies, bedding, blankets, monetary donations, vehicles, building materials, and volunteer time so quickly in our moment of need!
Yesterday the water receded and work began to evaluate the damage and begin the cleanup process. The flood not only ruined our dog and cat food supply, but also destroyed the storage sheds they were housed in. Our staff and volunteers worked to dispose of the ruined food supply, building debris, and trash caused by the flood. Additionally, work began to remove water out of the basement of our office building.
As we continue to evaluate the damage, we have a better idea of what our needs are. Cleaning supplies (bleach, paper towels, trash bags, etc.), yard tools (shovels, rakes, etc.), and cash donations are the most needed items. Supplies can be dropped off at the following locations:
- Wasson Nursery, 3737 N. County Road 500 West, Muncie, IN 47304
- Red Head Salon, 1512 W. White River Blvd., Muncie, IN 47303
- Care Animal Hospital, 3601 North Nebo Road, Muncie, IN 47304
- Happy, Clean, and Smart, 5700 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, IN 47304
- Boyce Animal Hospital, 1505 W. Riggin Road, Muncie, IN 47303
- Anthony J. Hornaday, D.D.S., 620 S. Tillotson Avenue, Muncie, IN 47304
- PetSmart 3450 N. Morrison Road, Muncie, IN 47304
Monetary donations can be made through the website by clicking here.
We are creating a project list while keeping an eye on the weather to plan a "Community Cleaning Day" at ARF. Please stay tuned via this website, our Facebook page, our Twitter page, and through local media outlets for specific details down the road.
Speaking of weather, steps are also being taken to prepare for another storm forecasted for the area Thursday Night through Sunday. New supplies are being moved to a safe location so they aren't damaged by another potential onslaught of water that might be in our near future. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a change in this forecast.
Again, we cannot thank everyone enough for their donations, time, energy, thoughts, and prayers!
